Chapter Bio
Founded in 1979 by five passionate scale modelers, our Plastic Modellers Group began as a small circle of friends united by a shared love for craftsmanship, history, and creativity. What started as informal gatherings to build and exchange ideas quickly grew into something much larger.
We honor Mr. Vicente Cardenas (late), Mr. Leonardo Siller (late), Mr. Luis Montemayor (late), Mr. Alberto Retout (late), Mr. Julian Maldonado (late)
In 1982, the group opened its doors to the wider modeling community, welcoming enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. The response was inspiring — by 1984, membership had grown to at least 25 active modelers, reflecting the strong interest in scale modeling and the welcoming spirit that defined our club from the beginning.
That same milestone year, we achieved a historic distinction: we were officially accepted as a Chapter of the International Plastic Modellers’ Society USA (IPMS USA), becoming the only chapter located outside the United States at the time. This recognition connected us to an international network of modelers while allowing us to proudly represent our local modeling community on a global stage.
In 2023, we renewed our IPMS USA Chapter status, reaffirming our commitment to the standards, camaraderie, and passion that have guided us for more than four decades.
Today, we continue to celebrate the joy of scale modeling — sharing techniques, learning from one another, organizing activities, and fostering friendships built around the hobby we love. Our chapter remains open to everyone, from beginners to experienced builders, and we actively extend invitations to other modeling groups to collaborate, participate, and grow together.
More than a club, we are a community — united by creativity, dedication, and the enduring joy of modeling.
